P. Maxwell Courtney, MD

Dr. Courtney serves as the Division Chief of Adult Reconstruction at Rothman Orthopaedics and is a board certified, fellowship-trained, orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement surgery.  After graduating from Georgetown University School of Medicine, he completed his orthopaedic surgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania, and then pursued fellowship training in Adult Reconstruction at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL.
 
He specializes in partial and total knee arthroplasty, complex primary and revision arthroplasty of the hip and knee, periprosthetic fractures, and periprosthetic infections of the hip and knee.

Dr. Courtney is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University and lectures across the country and internationally.  He is a renowned researcher, authoring 200 peer-reviewed publications and has been recognized with multiple awards from the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) and the Knee Society for his work.  He also serves as the vice-chair of the AAHKS Advocacy Committee on the board of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons PAC.
