- Kayla's Rothman Story - ACL Reconstruction - Sports Medicine
When 16-year-old Kayla Washington tore her ACL, the first thing we replaced was her worry. A rising field hockey star, Kayla had never before been injured, and was unsure of the surgical process in front of her. How did it work? How would her knee respond? And most importantly, when could she get back on the field?! Her Rothman team treated her with openness and honesty, and quickly turned Kayla’s anxiety into optimism.
“They were very straight with me,” Kayla said of her Rothman team. “They just said, ‘This is what you need to get better. So let’s move forward.’”
“Moving forward” is an understatement. Five months later, Kayla is way ahead of schedule. She’s hitting it hard in the weight room, practicing with her teammates, and has circled the first week in September for her comeback. Pennsauken opponents beware… Kayla is BACK.
