Main Line Health and Jefferson Health Partnering with Rothman Orthopaedic Institute and NueHealth in Ownership of Physicians Care Surgical Hospital

Main Line Health (MLH) and Jefferson Health are partnering with Rothman Orthopaedic Institute and NueHealth in the ownership of the Physicians Care Surgical Hospital (PCSH) in Royersford, PA. This 30,000 square foot, short-stay surgical hospital has 12 inpatient beds and five operating rooms. As part of this joint agreement, the four organizations will partner to continue to offer enhanced access to specialty surgical services, including orthopaedic, gynecologic, ophthalmologic, otolaryngologic, pain management and others.

“This agreement with our longtime partners, Jefferson Health, Rothman Orthopaedic Institute, and NueHealth will further enhance the level of specialized care provided at Physicians Care Surgical Hospital and will offer patients access to some of the leading surgical service providers in the region,” says Jack Lynch, President and CEO of Main Line Health. “This opportunity aligns with our strategic plan to not only provide a superior experience for patients, physicians, employees and partners, but to invest in assets that advance the health and wellness of the communities we serve.”
“This is a great example of a creative partnership that will allow patients a passport to affordable orthopaedic care from our top quality institutions,” said Stephen K. Klasko, MD, MBA, President and CEO of Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health. “We are re-imagining musculoskeletal care throughout the region.”

As co-owners of the Delaware Valley Accountable Care Organization (DVACO), Main Line Health and Jefferson Health continually seek partnerships that will enhance the high-quality, high-value care for the region. Rothman Orthopaedic Institute currently provides specialized orthopaedic services at each Main Line Health Hospital and will be opening an Ambulatory Orthopaedic Surgery Center at Bryn Mawr Hospital in June, in addition to the Ambulatory Surgery Center at Riddle Hospital. Rothman and Jefferson recently agreed on a partnership of the Rothman Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital, in Bensalem.
“Our partnership with both Jefferson and Main Line Health has always been strong and this partnership just further cements our relationship,” said Alexander R. Vaccaro, MD, PhD, MBA, President of Rothman Orthopaedic Institute, Richard H. Rothman Professor and Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics, and professor of neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University and Hospitals. “All three organizations are committed to providing the highest-quality care at the lowest cost. This facility epitomizes that goal.”

"Specialty facilities like the Physicians Care Surgical Hospital are key sites of service for value-driven care and have been the focus for NueHealth since our inception,” said Steve Harmon, CEO, NueHealth. “Because of our shared commitment to excellence, Physicians Care Surgical Hospital has been ranked among the nation's top 1% for patient excellence—something we will work to help them maintain and even exceed."

Formed in 2007, the Physicians Care Surgical Hospital provides multi-specialty surgical care to patients with both inpatient and outpatient needs. PCSH consists of:

  • Three pre-admission testing rooms
  • Eight pre-op bays
  • Five operating rooms
  • 12 PACU bays
  • 12 private inpatient rooms
  • One ophthalmology laser room
  • Imaging other ancillary services as required for inpatient care
