Sports Medicine Physician D. Harrison Youmans, M.D. joins Rothman Orthopaedics - Florida

Rothman Orthopaedic Institute is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. D. Harrison Youmans, Fellowship Trained Sports Medicine physician, to Rothman Orthopaedics – Florida. Dr. Youmans will specialize in the treatment and injury management of athletes of all ages and activity levels as well as affiliated sports teams.

Rothman Professor and Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics, and Professor of Neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University and Hospitals. “His expertise in sports medicine as well as his education and research in all the latest techniques, makes him a perfect fit for our practice. He is passionate about his contributions to the health and wellness community in this region, and we look forward to having him as a leading member of our Central Florida team.”

Dr. Youmans completed his undergraduate degree in Exercise Science at the University of South Carolina in Columbia; Medical School and Family Medicine Residency at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, where he was recognized as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society; and his Sports Medicine Fellowship at the internationally recognized, American Sports Medicine Institute/Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

Named one of Orlando Family Magazine’s Top Physicians in 2020, Dr. Youmans has worked in various roles on the professional and amateur levels, including Head Primary Care Team Physician for Orlando City Soccer Club (MLS, NWSL, USL, Development Academy); US Soccer Sports Medicine Consultant; Major League Soccer (MLS) Sports Medicine Consultant (MLS is Back Tournament 2020, MLS All-Star Game 2019); Sports Medicine Consultant for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE); as well as Affiliate Team Physician for the Atlanta Braves. 

Additionally, Dr. Youmans sits on various sports medicine boards such as Major League Soccer Education Committee; National Women’s Soccer League Medical Task Force; and serves as Co-Medical Director for the Sunshine State Athletic Conference.

Dr. Youmans enjoys working with patients to manage sports-related injuries, particularly muscle strains and tendon injuries. He believes it is important to educate each patient on what their condition is, and the options for treatment that will best help them to achieve their goals. He specializes in the use of Ultrasound for diagnostic evaluations of musculoskeletal injures and for image-guided injection therapies; Regenerative Therapies including Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Stem Cell Therapies; compartment pressure testing for Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome; and concussion management. He will begin seeing patients late January 2021 in Polk County, Florida. 

Rothman Orthopaedic Institute announced their expansion into Central Florida in September. In its first five years in the region, Rothman’s goal is to have a roster of 50 fellowship trained, sub-specialized physicians who have a history of exceeding clinical quality, reputation and share an interest in research and education.
