Washington Township's First Patient

January 15th, 2019

Rothman Orthopaedics is happy to open our brand new Washington Township office today.

One of our first patients was 19 year old Jamil Adams of Sicklerville.

He runs track at Syracuse University, but this weekend took a nasty spill doing hurdles.

“I was neck and neck with another runner but I took a couple bad steps and hit the fourth hurdle,” said Adams. “I went down and couldn’t get up. I looked over at my arm and it was deformed so I knew it was bad.”

He was taken to a local hospital and was diagnosed with a dislocated elbow and multiple fractures.

His mother and father didn’t want him to have surgery away at college so they brought him home – and to Rothman Orthopaedics.

Actually, on their way home from Syracuse they stopped at Rothman Orthopaedic Urgent Care in Marlton. The staff did x-rays and then called Shoulder & Elbow surgeon Luke Austin at home. Dr. Austin came into the office to see Jamil in person.

Once the initial diagnosis was made Dr. Austin and his staff scheduled Jamil first thing Monday morning in our Washington Township office to follow-up. He was seen this morning and is scheduled for surgery tomorrow.

“This is God’s plan for me, it is very tough now but it will make me stronger,” said Jamil. “I am not gonna let this bring me down. They couldn’t pay me a million dollars to quit.”
