The recovery process for a joint replacement varies depending on the procedure, but you will likely spend the first few days in the hospital to begin recovery and physical therapy. When you return home you will need to have arrangements for someone to help you with basic activities for the first few weeks. After that you will probably need to use supports while walking for a while and be diligent in participating physical therapy, but will begin to be able to return to your normal activities.
