Non-Surgical Options: Sports Related Conditions
At Rothman Orthopaedic Institute our goal is to return the injured athlete to their beloved sport as soon as possible. Thankfully, many injuries can be healed through the use of non-surgical methods, decreasing the amount of time required to stay away from the sport.
The following non-surgical methods are used often with high success rates within all athletic areas:
-
RICE - rest, ice, compression, and elevation. This simple method is often used for minor sprains and strains
-
Physical therapy
-
Pain and anti-inflammatory medication
-
Strengthening exercises
-
Adjustments to equipment, form or technique
-
Use of braces or joint immobilizers
