Dr. William E. Ryan is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon, specializing in orthopaedic trauma and fracture care. He joins Rothman Orthopaedics from Carolinas Medical Center, the 6th busiest trauma center in North America.
Dr. Ryan received his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine and was the recipient of the Oscar Corn Award for excellence in orthopaedic surgery. He completed a year of surgical internship at Hahnemann University Hospital and completed his orthopaedic surgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received the DeForest Willard Award for outstanding performance as a senior resident. During his time at Penn, he was elected Academic Chief Resident and selected for the AOA Emerging Leaders Program. He then completed a fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.
Dr. Ryan’s training emphasizes minimally invasive surgical technique and rapid recovery protocols that allow many traditionally inpatient procedures to be performed in the outpatient setting. He has specialty training in the management of complex periarticular fractures, pelvic and acetabular fractures, as well as fracture related infections and nonunions / malunions. His additional interests include limb reconstruction and deformity correction, lower extremity rotational flap coverage and osseointegration.
Dr. Ryan believes in an individualized, patient-centered approach to restoring mobility and function. He is committed to guiding patients through their recovery process and returning them to the activities that they love.
