Non-operative Stiff Big Toe

The most commonly prescribed treatments are:

Anti-inflammatory medications - These medications help decrease inflammation, swelling, and pain. If these oral medications don’t help, then a steroid or cortisone injection may be considered.

Hard, stiff-soled shoes - This type of footwear is designed to limit the motion at the base of the big toe. Special inserts can also be used in footwear to allow for foot motion without bending of the first toe.
